DAINTREE RAINFOREST ECOTOURISM
Ecotourism is more vital to the Daintree Rainforest than quite possibly any other community in the world. Without ecotourism to provide the requisite economy, the rainforest community’s regulated conservation management functions cannot be met. Ecotourism joins the custodial community as an inter-dependent partner-in-protection.
Just as Australia was formerly compelled to exemplify to less-developed nations with tropical rainforest, that conservation could produce socio-economic benefits greater than extractive industries, so too should the Daintree Rainforest showcase the world’s first working model of a genuinely sustainable ecotourism.
It has all the necessary ingredients: Unparalleled natural and cultural capital and an integrated community of dedicated custodians … all it requires is the appropriate form of tourism.
The International Ecotourism Society defines ecotourism as:
Responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people.
Travelers to the Daintree Rainforest have the capacity to support the achievement of long-term sustainability through conscientious conformity to the stated definition of ecotourism. Indeed, a truly sustainable partnership will allow for the achievement of the Daintree Rainforest community’s enormous potential, to provide a beacon of integrated conservation management, for other communities living within rainforest environments throughout the world.
Beyond the benefits of achieving ethical access to the Daintree Rainforest, participants become the driving force towards a more sustainable future. Such determination can make ALL the difference in the world.
